About Me

“Nonstop to Arctic Circle after Karlskrona-see Table 721a/b. Hot water bottle advisable. Hard tack only after Murmansk. Return journey via Anchorage and Mexicali. Boy, oh boy, have you screwed up this time, pal.”
- Bill Bryson, Neither Here nor There

“There must be a beginning, a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory. The greatest things are accomplished, and the greatest achievements are won, by toil and by striving uninterrupted, toil as well of the body as of the spirit.”
- Francis Drake, The True Glory

I’m am planning (or perhaps already doing if I forget to update this page in the near future) a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, the 2,200 mile footpath that runs from Maine to Georgia. I leave on June 29, should be finished by mid-December or so. Provided I don’t get eaten by a bear.

Stick to it nephew. Hope your resolve does not wither away in the weeks ahead. Loved your video from Barren Mtn. Not “stupid” it’s a “guy thing”. I’d do it now and I have a few years on your dad.

    Robert,

We haven’t met, but I’m also a Baylor ‘09 grad. I have also been planning on thru-hiking the AT for a few years now. I was going to hike it this year if grad school didn’t work out, but alas, here I am a student yet again. The AT will have to wait a few more years. Anyway, I thought it was great to see another recent Baylor grad who has the same aspiration and is going for it! I might have to get some trail advice from you when you are done.

Good luck on the second half, and just remember that if you run into any bears, just do a Sic ‘em and they’ll know your family!
