A Few Notes

17 May 2009 · 4 Comments

There is just a lot going on in my life right now and I can not really formulate it into a cohesive post, so I am just going to put it all down in a list. Enjoy.

1. I just grajitated graduated this morning. This is exciting, but also really sad. Which is how I want to feel. If I was only sad, then it would mean I have nothing to look forward to. And if I was only happy about graduating, then it would mean that I didn’t like college. So feeling excited/sad is just the best way to feel, even if it leaves me in a lot of tension.

2. I said goodbye to most of my friends over the past week. This was mainly just sad, not very exciting. I know that I am going to meet new people and have great friends in the future, but these friends are just so nice, and I like the features they come with, and I don’t want to learn how to get along with new people when I am just so comfortable here. We’ve been busy partying/camping/tubing/talking/hugging/crying/swimming/etc., trying to wring every bit of joy out of our last few days together. It’s exhausting, but worth it. To all of my friends, I say I love you dearly and will miss you greatly and hope to see you all very soon! The Baylor Studs better have a Christmas Party this year.

3. Bear attacks? See below.

4. Yes, I have read Into the Wild. No, I have not seen Deliverence. Whenever I tell people about hiking the AT, they invariably mention these two books/movies, and I make the same lame joke about not dying in the wilderness at the hands of inbred psychopaths or poison berries. Stop worrying everyone, I’m going to be fine. I am a College Graduate.

5. No I will not carry a gun (ahem, Ryan). The AT is considerably safer than the rest of America.

6. People keep asking me, “How will you eat on the trail?” Answer 1: “I’m going to forage for nuts and berries, and supplement my diet with the occasional bear or two. Answer 2: “I am carrying six months worth of Cliff Bars.” Answer 3 (the real answer): I am going to premake about two-thirds of my meals, box them up, and have them mailed to me a week’s worth at a time. I will purchase the other third along the way.

7. I might be going to grad school abroad in 2010 through a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship. I won’t find out if I got it until August, but it would be pretty great if I did!

That’s all I got. But I leave you with this video to think upon:

SING!

1 March 2009 · 1 Comment

Well, Sing has finally come to a close, and I am so proud to be in ATO tonight! We did such a good job and I am really happy with how it all turned out—a People’s Choice for Best Theme, and an invitation to Pigskin! Sure, it would have been great to place, but it’s great to know that the act will still be performed again next year in Pigskin, and honestly, that’s what really matters. For me, Sing is partly about the competition, but mainly about putting on an entertaining show. Congratulations to all the acts that made it to Pigskin, especially Sing Alliance and ADPi, two of my personal favorites. Sing is something that I am really going to miss once I graduate, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to do it in the first place (and do it so well)!

Back In Waco

26 August 2008 · 1 Comment

Well, I made it back from Boston and am back in Waco. I just had my first day of class in about five months, so that was kind of strange. And this is the first time I’ve been back in Waco for an extended period since pretty much last November, so that is kind of strange too. But it is really nice, I’ve had so much fun seeing everyone and catching up. And it’s nice not to have to be doing the whole “see you in a few months/never goodbye.” It’s almost novel to me right now to say “See you tomorrow!” On a different note, I am kind of concerned about losing the habits I picked up in Boston, such as reading constantly and making lots of music. I haven’t cracked a book in days now, and my guitars are sitting in my room, very lonely and confused. I hope I can keep up those hobbies as the semester progresses!

A few other things: I am converting my bicycle to fixed gear. There was a time when I would say “Fixies are stupid and dangerous.” And now I have one. So I guess that means I am also stupid and dangerous. It’s a pretty big project turns out, lots of little mesaurements to make and such. Hopefully it will be up and running by the weekend!

In my first class today, the professor asked me if I prefer “Robert,” at which point Christy and Molly both turned around with big puppy dog eyes, and I caved, and said, “You can call me Bob.” So, as far as Dr. Hanks and the rest of my Children’s Lit class is concerned, my name is “Bob.”

I found out a few weeks ago that my grandfather has cancer. He’s been doing radiation for a few days now, and will start chemo pretty soon. I am really nervous about it, because chemo is so rough. Also, my old choir director, who I was pretty close with, just had a brain tumor removed today. They found out about it last week, and he had surgery today. It looks like everything went well so far. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

And finally: I don’t know what’s going to happen to the blog right now. I am so busy doing stuff, and don’t have enough time to be witty and finely-painted and well-crafted and all that. So, if I post, I post. If I don’t, I don’t. And on that ambiguous note…
